Ealing
In 2022, we partnered with Ealing Wildlife Group to support their Hedgehog Highways project. 60 cameras were deployed in a range of park, garden and allotment habitats. Positively, hedgehogs were detected in four of the seven surveyed sites, with results indicating that residential areas were important for hedgehogs as higher levels of activity were seen here than in parks.
In 2024, we continued our collaboration, deploying 42 cameras across five new park habitats. Findings of this survey were encouraging, with hedgehogs detected by 37% of cameras at three of the sites, showing that parks are also a valuable habitat for hedgehog populations in the borough. Ealing Wildlife Group are utilising HogWatch survey results to target areas for hedgehog highways, create hibernacula’s, and engage with the community through educational events.
