Historical Knowledge Survey
We’re currently conducting a citizen science survey to collect information on recent and historical wild mammal sightings across Greater London. This is with the main aim of gaining a better understanding of how species like hedgehogs, foxes and badgers are distributed across the city.
We would like to encourage as many people as possible to answer this survey, even if you haven’t seen any of these mammals in your neighbourhoods. Absence data is just as valuable as sightings, helping us to identify both where species are present and where their distribution has changed in the past 20 years.
The information we’re gathering is a vital resource for our conservation work and leads on from our 2022 project for the Mayor of London’s Rewild Fund, where we started a citizen science survey to help fill the knowledge gap on the extent of hedgehog distributions between Hampstead Heath and Regent’s Park. This information helps us to identify trends, target conservation efforts, and guide future research. We’re currently collecting responses and will soon be working towards publishing our findings to support hedgehog conservation across the capital.
If you live in London, you can take part and contribute to this important project. Every response helps! Here is the link: Hedgehog and Wildlife Survey - Google Forms
